A federal appeals court has rejected an effort to block the release of a portion of Special Counsel Jack Smith's final report detailing his investigation and prosecution into President-elect Trump's alleged interference in the 2020 election and improper retention of secret records.

The US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit denied the request by Walt Nauta, a Trump aide, and Carlos de Oliveira, a former Mar-a-Lago real estate manager, who were indicted for their roles in obstructing a separate federal investigation. In Trump's handling of sensitive government records.

Smith was tapped by Garland in 2022 to investigate both alleged efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election results, as well as Trump keeping allegedly secret documents at his Florida residence.

Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. Nota and de Oliveira also pleaded not guilty to federal charges alleging that they conspired to obstruct the FBI's investigation into classified documents. Found at Mar-a-Lago.
