Fires burning in Pacific Palisades, an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood near Malibu and Santa Monica, have been increasing at an alarming rate.

Its path was fueled by a strong wind event – dry winds from the mountains to the north and east down to the Los Angeles coast, called “Santa Ana winds.”

CBS News, the BBC's partner in the US, sent its correspondent Dania Backus to cover the scene. She explains how “explosive” inferno grows, where the wind sends up embers that spread the flames.
