WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, who says he won July's presidential election and has been recognized as president-elect by several countries, said on Monday that he had a fruitful meeting with US President Joe Biden and is in contact with the US president. -Donald Trump was elected.
Gonzalez's visit to Washington comes as part of a regional tour a few days before the inauguration of President Nicolas Maduro, who was recognized by the Supreme Court of Venezuela and the electoral authority as the winner of the elections, for his third term.
“We had a long, productive and cordial conversation with President Biden and his team,” Gonzalez told reporters after the meeting at the White House. “Our team is in contact with President Trump’s team.”
Gonzalez added that he expects the relationship with the Trump administration to be close.
