Ollie Lawrence has apologized for his role in the incident which led to the negligence of his England teammate Alex Mitchell. Bath Gallagher's Premier League defeat to Northampton on Sunday.

Lawrence and Mitchell collided heads as the Saints half made the tackle at Franklin Parks, with the Bath center collapsing to the ground clutching his face after the impact.

Referee Anthony Woodthorpe showed a yellow card to Mitchell before Lawrence appeared to smile at the decision as teammate Finn Russell prepared for the resulting penalty.

After accusations that he overreacted, Lawrence used his response X An account to express his remorse.

“I apologize if my actions today offended anyone,” he wrote. “After review, I understand the frustration expressed! I will be better.”

Lawrence had earlier upset the home fans with a late shoulder strike on George Hendy, forcing the full-back out of the match.

The Saints beat Bath 35-34 as Finn Smith scored a last-gasp penalty, handing the league leaders their second defeat of the season.

Bath had inflicted a record 68-10 loss on Saracens a week earlier.
