Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who was part of a failed campaign to oust Johnson last year, was the speaker-designate's most vocal critic before Friday's vote.

And what it entails From presidential elections!!” Trump wrote on his app Truth Social.

“Thank you, President Trump! Today is a new day in America. Republicans in Congress must remain united to quickly implement President Trump's America First agenda. Let's get it done,” Johnson wrote on X in response.

His victory marks the beginning of his first term as speaker. Johnson won the gavel in October 2023 after three weeks of closed-door talks following the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Republican of California.
