Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said the club could make moves in the January transfer window if they can identify the right players.

Arsenal is six points behind Liverpool in the English Premier League and is without winger Bukayo Saka due to injury.

Last January, the club did not bring in any players, but Arteta says they may make a move this year.

He said: I don't know. The focus is on the players we have.

“If there is someone on the market that we can afford and that we think will have a real impact on the team, we should always be open to that possibility.

“Right now, the focus is on what we have.”

Team news

Saka remains out for an extended period but Arsenal will have Kai Havertz available after illness for Saturday's trip to Brighton.

Former Seagulls defender Ben White remains absent, while Takehiro Tomiyasu is back in training but will not be in a hurry to return. To add to the problems that right defender Jorien Timber is suffering from suspension.

However, Raheem Sterling could be back soon.

Arteta said: “He (Sterling) is starting to do some things on the field, which is great news. Let’s see how he develops next week and we will see if he is available for the following week.
