JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesia's annual inflation rate was 1.57 percent in December, official data showed on Thursday, a slight change from 1.55 percent the previous month, and close to the 1.60 percent estimate of economists in a Reuters poll.

The annual core inflation rate, which excludes government-controlled prices and volatile food prices, was 2.26% in December, the same as November and close to the poll's forecast of 2.28%.

The country's central bank aims for inflation in 2024 and 2025 to be in the range of 1.5% to 3.5%.

Bank Indonesia policymakers have repeatedly said they are monitoring global developments to determine the right time to further ease monetary policy.

The central bank cut interest rates in September, but has since paused even though inflation is near the lower end of its target range, due to financial market volatility and a weak rupee currency.
