This has disrupted things in the dressing room as players believe that communication is no longer as good as it was during the era of Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid.

A BCCI official made a bold claim that Gambhir was not the first choice for the team's head coach as the board wanted VVS Laxman to take up the role. While describing the current coach as a compromise, he explained:
“There is a Test match to be played and then there is the Champions Trophy. If the performance does not improve, even Gautam Gambhir's position will not be secure.”
“He was never the first choice of BCCI (it was VVS Laxman) and some of the well-known outside names did not want to coach all three formats, so it was a compromise. Obviously some other compulsions were there as well.”
India national cricket team trails by 2-1 in the match series. They won the first match in Perth and then lost in Adelaide before the draw was made at the Gabba. The last match in Melbourne saw Australia win the match by 184 runs. The next match will be held starting January 3 in Sydney.
