A University of Georgia The school confirmed in a statement on social media that the student was seriously injured in an apparent terrorist attack in New Orleans on Wednesday morning that killed at least 10 people and injured dozens.
The student, whose identity has not been released, was “seriously injured” when a driver plowed into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street with a pickup truck just after 3 a.m. local time on New Year's Day.
The student has most likely been in town before College football game The quarterfinal matchup between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish was scheduled to take place in the Superdome on Wednesday night.

“I am deeply saddened by the devastating attack that occurred in New Orleans overnight, and I offer my sincere condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this terrible tragedy,” President Jerry W. Moorhead said in his statement.
“At this point, we have learned that a UGA student was seriously injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment. I have spoken to the student's family and shared my concern, support, and well wishes on behalf of the entire UGA community. I would like to express my gratitude to all first responders who moved quickly to help those affected by “This senseless act of violence, as well as to the medical personnel caring for the wounded.”
Moorhead pledged support for the New Orleans community in the wake of what he called an “unspeakable event.”

Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley announced Wednesday afternoon that the game between Georgia and Our Lady It will be postponed for 24 hours in a decision made with “everyone's best interests in public safety” in mind.
He continued: “There will be more details about that in the coming hours, but for now, this is the plan that we will go ahead and play the match (tomorrow).”

Police have identified the suspect as 42-year-old Shamsuddin Jabbar, who was pronounced dead at the scene after an exchange of gunfire with local law enforcement. The FBI is working to determine the subject's “possible ties and affiliations with terrorist organizations,” after an ISIS flag was found in the truck. Weapons and a possible explosive device were found inside the suspect's vehicle, and other possible explosive devices were found in the French Quarter.
The FBI said on Wednesday that it did not believe Jabbar was “solely responsible” for the terrorist act.
