the Dallas Stars They were hit with a hefty fine by the NHL after they violated the collective bargaining agreement between the NHLPA and the league by holding an optional practice last week during the mandatory Christmas break.

NHL It was announced on Monday that the organization has been fined $100,000 for holding a training session on Thursday, the day after Christmas, despite a mandatory three-day break starting on December 24.

“This team activity was in violation of Section 16.5(b) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL and the NHL Players Association,” the announcement read.

Under the agreement, “no club may request a player’s consent to train on such days for any reason” on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and December 26, unless the match falls on the 26th.

Dallas' break came after a 3-2 win over Utah Hockey Club on Monday, December 23. Their next game was scheduled to be against Utah. Minnesota Wild On Friday, December 27th.

Speaking to reporters before the game, head coach Pete DeBoer said the team “had a draft pick, and of course, all the guys showed up for picks, as they're supposed to do.”

Maverick Burke, Logan Stankoven, Wyatt Johnston, Leanne Pixel, Niels Lundqvist and Thomas Harley were among the players who attended the game. However, De Boer on Saturday described the order as a “voluntary ice-out” rather than a scheduled, optional exercise as he initially said.

Travel to games is also prohibited during the league-mandated break. The fine money will go to the NHL Foundation.
