Cliftonville FC say they are 'devastated' by the sudden death of defender Michael Newbery.
The 27-year-old's death was announced this morning by the Northern Irish club in a social media post.

It read: “Cliftonville Football Club is shocked to learn of the sudden death of Michael Newbery.
“Our condolences go out to Michael’s family and friends, as well as to the many teammates he played with during his career, and the fans who will be shocked and saddened by this devastating news.”
Newcastle-born Newbery began his career with his hometown club before joining Icelandic side Vikingur Olavsvik and then trying his luck in Northern Ireland with Linfield.
He won two Premier League titles before moving via Belfast to join Cliftonville in the summer. Newbury played in the Boxing Day match against the Crusaders.
His former club Linfield also paid tribute with a post on X, which said: “Linfield FC are devastated to learn of the sudden death of our former player, Michael Newbery.
“Linfield have agreed with the NIFL that tonight’s Premiership match against Larne should be postponed.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Michael’s family and friends at this very sad time.”

Linfield chairman Roy McGivern added: “I was devastated to hear of Michael's sudden death.
“He was a kind, friendly man and a very popular member of our team during his time at Linfield. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”
