“Happy Holidays, everyone,” Obama says in the video. “I know it's been a difficult few months for many of us, and that people are feeling some anxiety and uncertainty.”

“But even during these difficult times, there are many reasons to remain optimistic,” she adds, before mentioning the programs run by the Obama Foundation.

A third said: “We are sure it will not be worse than your husband's administration or the Biden administration.” “We're sure.”

In dark and difficult times, she said, the country needs leaders who “connect with people's pain and address systemic issues at their roots, not leaders who stoke our fears and focus our anger on each other.”

But after the election, the Obamas issued a joint statement congratulating Trump on his victory, while acknowledging that “this is clearly not the outcome we had hoped for.”

“In a country as large and diverse as ours, we won't always agree on everything,” the Obamas said. “But progress requires that we extend good will and grace — even to people with whom we deeply disagree.”
