Nico Carrillo may not have lived in Thailand during his Muay Thai career, but he remained an astute student of the art of the eight limbs.

The Scottish knockout monster is one of the most learned fighters in the sport, and Superlek Kiatmoo9 is believed to exist in a rarefied air within the Muay Thai scene.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Carrillo said he has nothing but respect for the man who will challenge him for the ONE Muay Thai world bantamweight title at ONE 170 on January 24, 2025 at Impact Arena.

Carrillo said that though Muay Thai has become global, and there are still a few special Thai fighters who have been separated from their generation.

One such fighter is Superlek, Carrillo said:

“But you get these Thai guys that come along every now and then who are very special, and Superlake is one of them. Even with the big gloves, he was winning his fights on the gridiron before ONE came along.”

Superlek is already one of the best strikers of this generation, but he's also on his way to becoming one of the greatest Muay Thai fighters of all time.

“The Kicking Machine” holds a professional record of 139-29-4 and holds two world titles at flyweight kickboxing and bantamweight Muay Thai.

The 29-year-old is also a WBC Muay Thai champion and a two-division Lumpinee Stadium world champion.

However, Superlek reached the peak of his power when he began wreaking havoc One tournament.

Holding a promotional record of 15-1, Superlek is the only one to beat fellow Thai star Rodtang Jitmuangnon in an amazing ONE Championship match.

Nico Carrillo says his sole focus is to dethrone Superlek at ONE 170

Nico Carrillo will always keep his options open in his career, but he's not one to look too far ahead especially when he's ready to take on the biggest fight of his life.

In an interview with Leathered Podcast, His sole focus, Carrillo said He is taking the Muay Thai world bantamweight title from Superlek Kiatmoo9 when they face off at ONE 170 in Bangkok.

He said:

“Obviously all my thoughts are on this 145-pound gold. Absolutely. But I put my neck in the light now, I put my neck in the line and said once I win this I'll do this and I'll do that, I'll do that, but this belt is all my focus right now. “
