WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he had asked the Pentagon to continue increasing arms shipments to Ukraine after he condemned Russia's Christmas Day attack on some Ukrainian cities and its energy system.
“The purpose of this terrible attack is to cut off access to heating and electricity to the Ukrainian people during the winter and to jeopardize the safety of their grid,” Biden said in a statement. Republican President-elect Donald Trump will replace Democrat Biden on January 20.
Ukraine said Russia attacked the Ukrainian energy system and some cities with cruise and ballistic missiles as well as drones on Wednesday. Since Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Washington has allocated $175 billion in aid to Ukraine.
