Netflix may be the butt of jokes thanks to Netflix original movies that often look not only cheap but put together according to a soulless algorithm for maximum appeal, and yet, occasionally, a streamer will drop a hidden gem on viewers. In 2019, The platformabout a dystopian futuristic prison built vertically with food dropped off across hundreds of floors for the inmates trapped inside, was a Spanish sci-fi thriller that surprised everyone thanks to its imaginative premise and clever writing. Five years later, the Platform 2 It first appeared on the streamer, and served as its sole purpose To serve as a reminder that the first movie was really good.

333 levels of hell

Platform 2

Platform 2 It is set in the same vertical self-administration center as the original, with the same concept of food being dropped off from top to bottom, and each month, prisoners are randomly assigned to a different floor. As in the first film, there are factions among the prisoners, divided between those who eat only what they need to survive and those who believe they can take what they want, often by force. It is a clear way to view class struggle in the real world in a way Science fiction The environment, with all the violence and pain and well-intentioned, well-intentioned people you'd expect, and this is where I usually say “but with a twist,” except here, there's no twist.

Perembuan, the woman who chose to join the self-administration center as an act of atonement, is at the center Platform 2She finds herself immersed in the simmering factional conflict, only slightly complicated by the emergence of a sect known as the Anointed Ones, who believe in solidarity among prisoners, but enforce it through brutal, horrific acts of violence. While the first film relied primarily on intense conversations and a sense of exploration as viewers learned more about the brutal dystopia, the second took a more visceral approach to getting its message across, and the story suffered for it.

return journey

Platform 2

Most parts of the first film were repeated Platform 2Right down to “The Girl is the Message”, though, fails to capture the drama and tension building as Goering descends into the depths of the prison complex. Perempuan launches an escape plan, but it ends with a revelation meant to shock and show just how evil and manipulative the people behind the prison are, but we've seen this before. I haven't seen a sequel so derivative since Waste 2; At least at the time, the film openly admitted that they were doing the same thing again, but since then 22 Jump Street He made fun of everything about the sequel, and none of it was as blatant as this one.

At the same time, Platform 2 It may not be as good as the first It's not close to the original, but the increased violence and social commentary still provide a good viewing experience. Great science fiction reflects modern society through a futuristic lens, and sadly, stories of class struggle have been relevant since humanity first developed permanent housing. So, even though we've already seen this story, it's still worth telling, and fans of the original may enjoy the return trip, but for everyone else, go watch The platform Firstly.

Platform 2 Available now on Netflix.
