Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., is calling for the speedy trial, conviction and execution of the man accused in connection with the horrific killing of a woman who was burned alive on a street. New York City subway.

The outspoken Republican took to social media on Tuesday to address the incident in which Guatemalan national Sebastian Zapeta, 33, was accused of setting a woman on fire while on a train in Brooklyn.

“Death penalty, don't waste money on a lengthy trial. Convict and put him to death. What he did is absolutely evil,” Green declared in a post on X. “I can't watch the video anymore. How did this happen? It seems like no one tried to save her. Maybe they did, but it doesn't seem like that.”

Zabetta faces charges of first- and second-degree murder and first-degree arson, with a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole.

Green is not the only member of Congress to express his opinion on this issue.

Representative Ana Paulina Luna, Republican of Florida, also called for the death penalty.

“Death penalty,” she tweeted.

New York City Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch noted during Sunday's remarks that Zabetta “used what we believe was a lighter to ignite the victim's clothing, which became completely soaked within seconds.” Assistant Prosecutor Ari Rotenberg claimed in court on Tuesday that the suspect set the fire with a shirt.

Zabetta is scheduled to appear in court on December 27, according to online records.

A spokesperson for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said in a statement that Zabeta was removed from the United States in 2018 and then… He returned to the country illegally Sometime “at an unknown date and place.”
