American Airlines resumed its flights after suspending its services for about an hour on Tuesday due to a technical problem that affected the systems necessary to launch its planes.

The nationwide grounding was canceled just before 1:00 GMT, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The disruption came during one of the busiest travel days of the year as passengers took flights on Christmas Eve.

The airline said in a statement that a “supplier technical issue” caused the issue and that it was “all hands on deck” to minimize further disruption.

“We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused this morning,” the airline said.

“It's all hands on deck as our team works hard to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible.”

Departure boards at major US airports are still showing delays of up to two hours for some flights as the airline recovers from the nationwide issue, but real-time tracking site Flightradar24 shows planes are taking off again at a number of major US travel hubs and most flights The flights leave on time.

Passengers reported on social media that they were stuck on the runway or at gates as flights were affected by the disruption for about an hour.

In a video posted on X by a CBS correspondent in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a gate agent announced that a flight to Philadelphia would begin boarding.

“The system is slowly coming back,” the agent announced from the portal.
