Former seven-division world champion, 46-year-old Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao, just challenged WBC lightweight champion Mario Barrios to a bout.
Not fighting since August 2021, after losing to WBA Super World Welterweight Champion Iordenis '54 Milagros' Ugas, 'Pac Man' wants to get back in the ring.
“Pac Man,” one of the most admired and followed former champions from the Philippines, is not ready to quit. It may not be a title match, but he's still waiting to hear from Team Barrios.
In December 1998, “Pac-Man” won his first world title, knocking out WBC flyweight world champion Thailand's Chatchai Sasakul, 32-1-1, in the eighth round, while trailing on all scorecards, improving to -24. 1.
After Bonsai Sangsurat held off one defenseman, Pac Man, 18-0 in eight rounds in Thailand. After winning the WBC International Super Bantam title, making five defenses, he stopped IBF Super Bantam Champion Lehlo Ledwaba, 33-1-1, in June of 2001.
Moving up to featherweight, he stopped former champion Marco Antonio Barrera, 57-3, and won a title fight with IBF and WBA featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, 42-2, in a draw in June 2004.
He then lost to Eric Morales, 47-2, for two vacant minor titles. He won a rematch two fights later in his WBC title eliminator. In the third match, he knocked out Morales. Then he eliminated Jorge Solis with a score of 34-0-2. Next, he won a decision over Barrera, and won a title fight with WBC World Super Champion Feather Marquez, 48-3-1, defeating him.
He then went on to stop WBC World Lightweight Champion David Diaz, 34-1-1, in June of 2008. He then stopped former champion Oscar De La Hoya, 39-5. After that, he won the IBO Super Light title, defeating Ricky Hatton by a score of 45-1.
In November 2009, he stopped WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, 34-1. After two fights, he won the vacant WBC Super welter title, defeating Antonio Margarito, 38-6, in November 2010. He then defeated WBO World Welter Champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley, 46-6-4-1.
After that, another rematch with Marquez at 53-5-1, winning by majority decision. He then lost a disputed split decision to Tim Bradley Jr. 28-0. He was then eliminated from the tournament by Marquez in December 2012. In his rematch, he defeated Bradley. He then defeated Chris Algieri with a score of 20-0. Then, in June of 2015, he lost to world welterweight champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr., 47-0. In the third match with Bradley, he won again.
In November of 2016, he defeated WBO Welter champion Jesse Vargas, 27-1. Then, in Australia, he lost a disputed decision to Jeff Horn, 16-0-1. Then WBA Welter champion Lucas Martin stopped Matthysse, 39-4.
Adrien Broner then defeated “The Problem” by a score of 33-3-1. In July of 2019, he defeated Keith “One Time” Thurman 29-0. Two years later, he lost to Ugas. His current record is 62-8-2, with 39 stoppages.
Now the 46-year-old “Pac-Man” is gunning for the World Series 7 title.
