Former US President Bill Clinton was taken to the hospital after suffering from a fever, according to what a Democratic Party spokesman announced.

“He remains in good spirits and is very appreciative of the excellent care he is receiving,” Angel Urena wrote on X, before Twitter.

He said that Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., on Monday evening for tests and observation after developing a fever.

Urena's statement did not provide further details about the condition of the Democratic candidate from Arkansas, although US media reports indicate that Clinton is expected to recover.

A source close to Clinton said NBC News The situation is “not urgent” and that the former president will be “fine.” The news network reported that Clinton was awake and alert.

This is the latest health scare for the 42nd US president, who served in the White House from 1993 to 2001.

Clinton, 78, was last hospitalized for six days in 2021 in California after suffering from an infection in his blood. He is also known to have suffered from heart problems in the past.

In 2004, when he was 58, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery after doctors discovered signs of severe heart disease, and ten years later, he had a blocked artery opened after he complained of chest pains.

Shortly after the second surgery, the former president – known for his love of fatty foods – turned vegetarian. “I wouldn't exist if I hadn't become vegan,” he told Politico in 2016. “It's amazing.”

Clinton was active on the presidential campaign trail this year, traveling to the country to boost Vice President Kamala Harris' bid for the presidency.

Last month, he released his latest book, Citizen: My Life After the White House.
