Manchester United officials will not interfere with Ruben Amorim's decision to drop Marcus Rashford from his match-day squad, a report has revealed.

Rashford was first ruled out of the Manchester derby, after which he admitted his desire to…New challengeHe has since been left out of two further matchday squads, with Amorim openly admitting that his absence is a technical decision rather than a disciplinary matter.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, manager Sir Dave Brailsford, chief executive Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox will not encourage Amorim to end Rashford's exile, nor will they demand his return to the team.

While there is an acknowledgment that Rashford's presence on the bench is far from ideal – not least because of his wages in excess of £300,000-a-week – United's hierarchy will put their trust in Amorim to manage all selection-related issues.

Amorim for his part The door has not been completely closed on Rashford. In fact, he reiterated his desire to keep the striker at Old Trafford and repeatedly insisted on players being given a new roster after each match day.

Alejandro Garnacho, who was also ruled out of the Manchester derby, has since been used as a substitute in United's last two matches, suggesting there is a path back for players accused of letting their standards slip behind the scenes.
