Morrell is roughly the same size as Benavidez but with more power. He doesn't have a grumpy belly like him, keeping his weight down between fights and not indulging in good things.

In Benavidez's debut at 175 against Oleksandr Gvozdyk, the punches didn't affect him in their June 15 encounter. He looked like an average boxer, and he ate a lot of hard shots from Gvozdyk in that fight. Recently, Benavidez has blamed his poor performances on a whole host of different injuries, making himself look like a wounded man walking into that fight.
David's punches seemed to be thrown with the same force as they were when he fought at 168 years old. The only difference was that he was fighting a man of the same size, and it had no effect. Benavidez's injuries could be a sign that he is breaking down physically from a long career in the sport. He has been fighting for over 10 years and is approaching 30 years old.
Fighters usually end at that point in their careers unless they are genetically special. For Benavidez to suffer, the multiple injuries suggest he came to the end like an ordinary fighter and not one of the elite fighters.
Benavidez's excuses
“I'm ready to excel in my career and take on the biggest challenges out there. “I don't want to be a hypocrite,” Benavidez said of visualizing himself in tears over Canelo Alvarez not fighting him, yet he's been dodging a fight against Morel for two years.
Benavidez was a hypocrite because he didn't want to fight Morel and was doing the same thing Canelo was to him. His excuse that he has bigger money fights is the same excuse Canelo used for not fighting him. The truth was that Morell was very dangerous, and Benavidez did not want to lose.
“It wasn't that I didn't give him (Morrell) a chance. It was that Caleb (Plant) was a bigger fight than him. 'Boo Boo' (Demetrius Andrade) is a fighter than him. Then, when I got to 175, when I got to, he came right behind me. So, It was perfect. He got his (WBA 'regular') belt, and I got my (WBC interim light heavyweight) belt. “That's why I say now is the perfect time to do this fight,” Benavidez said.
Benavidez doesn't say he would have taken other, less serious fights instead of facing Morell. Benavidez has been called upon by Cuban talent for over two years, and has been taking easier fights, fighting these guys:
