The 1983 World Cup winners promise the help of Vinod Kambli
After Vinod Kambli's recent health issues came to light during an event earlier this month, members of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team have expressed their support. Even former Indian captains Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar offered their help but put a condition in front of Kambli that the former batsman will have to undergo rehabilitation to receive their support.
Meanwhile, Kambli shared details about his ongoing health struggles. The former Indian batsman revealed that he was suffering from a severe urinary problem that caused him great distress. Last month, Kambli's condition worsened, leading to his collapse.
Kambli's son, Jesus Cristiano, was there to support him along with his wife and daughter. Doctors later advised him to be admitted to hospital for treatment. Kambli also mentioned that he had two heart surgeries in 2013, for which Sachin Tendulkar provided him financial assistance.
In an interaction on Vicky Lalwani’s YouTube channel, Vinod Kambli said: “I was suffering from a urinary problem. It was just flowing. My son, Jesus Cristiano, picked me up and put me back on my feet. My 10 year old daughter and my wife came to help me. This happened one month ago. My head started to spin. I collapsed and fell. The doctor asked me to come in.”
Kambli also said during the interaction: “I am ready to go to rehab. I want to go there because I am not afraid of anything. My family is with me. Ajay Jadeja is a very good friend of mine. He came to meet me and said, 'Come on, get up.' A lot of people have called me Recently everyone has seen me and BCCI is definitely helping. Abe Kuruvilla is in touch with me, he is in touch with my wife as well.”
Notably, Kambli played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India during his career spanning nine years. He has scored four centuries in Test cricket, including two double centuries. Kambli was the first Indian to score two consecutive centuries in Test cricket.
