Arne Slott warned his players against complacency after Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with a 6-3 win over Tottenham.
The Reds produced one of their best attacking performances of the season away to north London, with Luis Diaz, Alexis McAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah scoring the goals.
But after going 5-1 up, a drop in intensity led to a brief hope of a Spurs comeback as they pulled the score back to 5-3, before Diaz secured a second win.
The win saw the Reds capitalize on Chelsea's dropped points as they drew 0-0 with Everton but Slott insists his side must keep their footing if they are to retain their title.
“Until 60 to 65 minutes, I really enjoyed what I saw,” the Dutch coach said.
“But then I also saw that no matter how good the players are, if they think they won't have to run more in this league, especially against Tottenham, they immediately start creating chances and they scored two goals. I was happy when the sixth came in.
“Maybe it's human when you're 5-1 up. You think: ‘Okay.’ But Tottenham always keeps progressing and they have the ability to create.
“You have to be at your best every second of the game, and if you're not 100% it hurts.”
Aperture: “It's hard to stay on top”
Liverpool will be top of the table at Christmas thanks to their impressive display against a weak Tottenham side. “It means something,” Slott said.
“You know as well as I do how difficult it is to stay at the top. You have to be on top of your game every minute. It's not easy to show up every three or four days.
“I did not expect Chelsea to drop points today. It can happen in any match, and that is what makes the league so special.”
Slot: “The best player Salah never stops working”
Salah became Liverpool's fourth-highest scorer in history thanks to his brace and Slott spoke of his admiration for the Egyptian striker's determination.
“Aside from being a good football player, he is very likable as a person,” Slott said. “He's always there to help his teammates, and he's always humble.
“He understands what it takes to be at this level every three days. That's what impresses me; as a top player, he understands how hard he works for the quality he shows.
