Despite frequent feelings of fear,Saturday Night Live“It's possible that star Colin Jost has a habit of making cruel jokes at wife Scarlett Johansson's expense in the annual joke exchange in which he and Weekend Update co-anchor Michael Che read jokes they've written to each other during the show's news segment — presumably without seeing them in advance.”
What Jost may not have been prepared for this year was Johansson's presence behind the scenes, where she had to watch her husband take punches in real time, with the camera cutting between the couple. The actress appeared on “SNL” to welcome host Martin Short to the prestigious Five-Timers club, which she joined in 2017. But before delving into the jokes about his wife, Jost read racist jokes Che had written to him, as has happened in years past.
“Wait. Before we do this, I know Michael's going to make me make some racist jokes like he always does.” Ghost began. “So this time, if you don’t mind, I’d like to read all the jokes in Black Voice, so I don’t get into trouble.”

“Very sorry in advance,” he told the crowd before making a joke about the vice president. Kamala Harris and reparations for slavery. “You all know my daughter Kamala Harris had a town hall meeting to talk about (how) she still supports the idea of slavery reparations. Well, damn it, girl. Me too. Because white people deserve our money back for all these slaves that escaped.” “Shiz,” he said, sounding horrified by the statement. I'm not afraid of you, Mofos,” the pained Ghost read through laughter.
The next joke focused on Jost's wife, but he continued to speak in the “black voice” throughout the clip.
“I want to dedicate this next joke to my friend Scarlett Johansson,” Jost said. The camera then panned to Johansson backstage as he watched the taping. Johansson was holding her drink, preparing for the inevitable.

“No! Oh my God, she's so worried,” Jost said before telling the joke. “Hey, Bo. You all know that Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday. Which means I'm about to get out of there.”
“Why?” Johansson can be heard saying as the camera cut to her. “Sheez,” Ghost continued hysterically. “No, no, I'm just playing.” “We had a baby together, and you haven't seen any pictures of him yet because he's black as hell,” she said, referring to the couple's son, Cosmo. “I'm not afraid of you mofos,” he repeated.
“Oh—,” Johansson said, the camera panning back to her as she took a swig of her drink.

Last year, Jost had to joke about his wife's acting prowess. “New York State Now Allows Movie Theaters to Sell Alcohol,” Jost read. “So I was finally able to enjoy my wife's little art films,” he said, as Johansson's Marvel film portrays him.Black widowappeared on the screen. “I'm kidding, honey.” I love all your movies. And if you ask me, you're a better 'Black Widow' than Coretta Scott King.”

Five months ago, Johansson admitted in “The Kelly Clarkson Show“Watching the clip was difficult. “It's too bad. “I passed out at that point in the night,” she joked. “Actually, I don’t remember it.”

The couple has been married since 2020 after reconnecting during a 2017 episode of the sketch comedy show.
