San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus said SWAT forces arrived at the scene after the suspect opened fire on all the officers.

The suspect was later found dead inside an apartment after an hours-long standoff on the city's north side. It is not known if the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or if he died from SWAT fire, McManus said.

“When I came out, I saw one of the SAPD officers had been shot,” Joseph Loredo, a resident of the apartment complex, told the local TV station. “It looked like he had a wound on his leg because they were putting a tourniquet on him and then they pulled him away.”

He said he recorded a video of the shooting between the officers and the suspect.

The police chief described the suspect as a man in his 40s, and said the original call to police came from a family member.
